The Tamar Valley Wine Route (TVWR) was established in 1994 and is a self-drive touring route, which now, in 2007, connects 24 vineyard cellar doors.
The TVWR is located in the Tamar Valley, Pipers Brook and Relbia districts in Northeast Tasmania.
The wine tourist finds adventure by following our picturesque wine trail. The route extends for 170 kilometres and travellers are guided by reassuring and distinctive road signs.
All cellar doors provide tastings and sales of Tasmanian premium cool-climate wines.
The Tamar Valley is noted for its intense pinot noirs, seductive sparkling wines and aromatic whites. The wines varieties of the Tamar Valley include Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris (Pinot Grigio), Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

The key to discovering the wine route is the Tasmania Wine Routes brochure featuring all wine regions in Tasmania.
Our Tamar Valley Wine Route offers luxury accommodation, cafes, restaurants, reception centres, art galleries, BBQ and picnic facilities, children’s playgrounds, cooking classes, cheese tastings, winery tours, concerts, special events and the sales of Tasmanian produce and gift items.
What is unique to the Tamar Valley Wine Route and now, to all wine routes in Tasmania are the distinctive road signs, designed by TVWR committee members in the early 1990s. They display the TVWR logo with its blue grapes on a yellow background.
Come and visit us in the Tamar Valley!
